The Alberta Premier League is BACK

A new name. A new look. A new season begins TODAY.
The Alberta Premier League kicks off its 2026 campaign Friday, May 1, marking the first season under its new identity following the rebrand from League1 Alberta earlier this year, and signalling a new era for the game in the province.
With a refreshed brand and growing momentum across the league, eight teams in both the Men’s and Women’s divisions are set to take the pitch as the next chapter begins.
Reigning champions Calgary Blizzard return with targets on their backs after sweeping both divisions in 2025. The Blizzard Men won’t ease into the season either, with a TELUS Canadian Championship matchup against CF Montréal on Wednesday, May 6.
Opening day also brings a familiar battle, as BTB Soccer Club and Calgary Rangers run it back in a rematch of last season’s league opener at Jasper Place Bowl in Edmonton. Rangers arrive with an injection of young talent from Alberta’s 2025 Canada Summer Games squad, including Ava Beuk, Garrett Smith and Jordy Gidney.
Across the slate, the pathway to the pro game is on full display. The Calgary Wild FC U23 women’s side and Cavalry FC II men’s side both open their seasons against Calgary Villains, highlighting the continued connection between the APL and the professional level.
BTB SC Men kick off their campaign with a refreshed squad that blends experience and new faces, including goalkeeper Steven Bohrson and midfielder Josiah John Kandinda, formerly of the Canadian Premier League’s Halifax Wanderers U21 Development Squad.
Two clubs, St. Albert Impact and Callies United, will have to wait until Week 2 to make their league debuts following opening weekend adjustments.
